Holiday Motel

Being able to walk to the boardwalk and beach was awesome, and the pillows and TV were good. The bathroom was a mess, though. The shower knobs literally fell off, and the water swung from freezing to scalding with no way to control it. The toilet tank also sometimes wouldn't fill enough to flush. The staff I spoke with by phone were kind and attentive. There's also a fish plant smell around there, so if smells easily make you queasy, don't book.

If you're heading to the harbor to buy seafood, take a charter, or launch your own boat, this motel is just a short walk away. The staff are super friendly, and there are grills and crab boilers you can use for free. It's an old place that hasn't been updated, but it was very clean and comfortable, and I'd highly recommend it for that kind of trip. Just don't expect the Hilton, or bring your wife or girlfriend unless she's really an outdoors kind of girl 🙂

The location is awesome, but I personally won't stay at this dump again. The room was badly outdated and pretty disgusting. The window wouldn't lock, the TV didn't work, and floor trim was missing so you could see the rotted wall by the carpet. I could only shower for three minutes before the drain backed up. The smell from outside made it hard to sleep. There was nobody working there, so I had to use a kiosk to get my room key.

The owners were kind and friendly, and easy to reach by ringing the doorbell. The place is beside a little strip of shops and restaurants, West Haven State Park, and the docks for fishing or crabbing, all within a reasonable walk for most people. The rate is hard to beat. I wasn't expecting much at that price, but I was pleasantly surprised by the value and location.
