The worst part was how misleading the room listing was. I booked for my daughter’s 15th birthday with a few friends, and had checked ahead that the pool and hot tub were working. On Friday we were told everything was fine, but when we arrived, the hot tub had been out of order since Thursday and the front desk seemed unconcerned. I tried to make the evening work with the in-room jacuzzi, only to find there wasn’t one. The photos were of the presidential suite, but a third-party site used them to advertise a standard two-queen room with a tiny living area. The room itself didn’t look like the photos either. The advertised spacious living area with a fireplace and jacuzzi was actually cramped and disappointing, more like a Motel 6 pretending to be a suite. The couch looked like it had survived a cat apocalypse, the ottoman corners were shredded, and the pillow had what looked like bite marks. There were mysterious brown stains on the white curtains, and the lampshade looked battered. My parents had stayed there recently, paid less, and got a bigger, better room, even with our military discount. When I called to ask for an upgrade, I was told ours was the “best available.” They offered 200 points, which I declined because I just wanted a better room. My husband had to go downstairs and practically raise hell before they gave us a $30 discount, hardly enough for a ruined birthday. Between the inaccurate photos, dirty furnishings, broken amenities, and poor service, Hilton Homewood Suites was a complete letdown last night. It’s not worth your money, time, or stress if you expect a clean, functional, comfortable stay.
The room felt like a small apartment, and it was clean, quiet, comfortable, and well equipped. We told Kudo at the front desk what kind of room we preferred, and he found the perfect one. He gave excellent service, and all the staff were friendly. The exterior was well maintained and inviting, and the lobby looked impressive, decorated prettily for the holidays. Breakfast was free and much better than most hotel breakfasts. There was old-fashioned oatmeal with toppings, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, chorizo, tortillas, red sauce, cheese, pastries, waffles, yogurt, cereal, and more than I can remember.
Room 310 had western art that I liked, and the same style runs throughout the hotel. The room itself felt more like a little apartment than a hotel room, with a very comfortable bed, a nice couch, a good-sized kitchen, and even a table with two chairs.
The place feels worn and needs a refresh. Breakfast needs work too. The eggs were horrible, and I can’t understand why they served BBQ pork in the morning or such cheap maple sausage. I think they can do better.
Right away, we noticed a brown spot on the blanket, possibly poop, earwax, or a booger. The hot tub had a green haze and some strange dust at the bottom, so I didn’t use it even though I’d been looking forward to it. The pool was cold, and someone had written things like “Hi” on the depth markers. Service was poor. We asked for a replacement blanket, and they dropped one off without knocking, so I didn’t know it was there until we went out for coffee. There were no towels when we were swimming. We asked for three, but a girl came with headphones on and left just two, so I had to share. Also, why do bathroom doors at Hilton or Marriott never latch? You have to tell everyone you’re showering or taking a
