The service is really good for a cheaper hotel, and if you're on a tight budget, they'll try to help you find a room. The owner works hard and is a kind, generous man. The room service ladies are super friendly and will chat as long as you like. They’re a big part of keeping the place going, and I think they deserve a raise. I believe they get around $10 per room they clean, and sometimes they only have a few rooms, so tip them if you can. My one complaint was a room with a door that wouldn't lock and needed repair. I had them move me, so check that your door locks properly. Apart from that, it's a five-star choice if you're looking for somewhere less expensive.
I woke up to sunlight showing every bit of trash on the floor. The room was filthy. I'd driven six hours and was exhausted, so I just needed somewhere to sleep. I’ve traveled around the world for about three decades, and this was by far the most disgusting hotel I’ve ever experienced. The first room smelled and looked like a biohazard: curtains torn off the rods, awful stains, no sheets, and floors covered in who knows what. The second room wasn't decent either, but I was too tired to complain again. I slept with my shoes on because I was afraid to touch anything with my feet. I didn't even want to collect the toiletries because I was worried about bacteria. There was food left in the fridge from who knows when. The toilet didn't work, so I carefully lifted the top with a towel and adjusted the mechanism inside. There was no toilet paper, so I used what I had in my purse. I appreciated the front desk guy, Tomas, for his free spirit, honesty, and humor, but he doesn't belong behind the desk. He should work for Disney, where those customer service qualities could shine. I don't want a refund. I want the owner or owners to get this place in order. It's badly in need of work. Tomas told me the housekeepers are lazy. Fire the staff if possible, or train them to sweep, mop, and do laundry. It takes some skill, but it's possible. I'm not being sarcastic. Some generational curses out there really do call for training in how to clean. Owners, call me if you feel you need to, but I'd rather you put that energy toward giving future guests a much better place to sleep. Sincerely, The Market, JKO P.S. Get rid of the chair. It screams m_rder. 😱
The room was so noisy at night. A couple argued right outside my door while my husband was trying to sleep, then they stayed up acting crazy at 3am. I’d only suggest this hotel for a one-night emergency if money is tight, and not for a longer stay. The bed was nasty, even though the bedding itself felt soft and comfortable. The sheets came off too easily, and the mattress underneath was badly stained. There was also a cigarette burn in the comforter. Only one lamp had a bulb, so I had to use the light above the bathroom sink.
I booked online and got an excellent rate for my one-night stay. The room was spacious and clean, and the staff were very friendly. Nothing fancy, but much better than the OYO down the road.
The feces around the bus stop are foul-smelling, so when I wait for the city bus I stand by the driveway near the entrance instead. The hotel and its grounds are disgusting, and so is the owners’ attitude. They told me to get off their property after one of the owners overheard me talking about the feces. I told them about the problem, and they basically replied, “What do you want me/us to do about it... so?” One owner said, “It's not our problem, not our property.” Instead of dealing with it, they let their ego take over. Smh.
