Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Wichita

The beds were clean and comfortable, but the hotel had a strange smell. The toilet was broken, so after each flush I had to keep taking the lid off to refill the tank. There was rust in the tub.

The manager was pleasant, which was the good part. There was a mouse in our room, and breakfast looked kind of nasty, so we skipped it.

The location near the turnpike was okay, but the run-down surrounding area had a lot of unwanted traffic. Inside, the beds were very hard and badly stained, the blankets had burn holes, and the worn fitted sheets wouldn’t stay on. There was visible dirt on the walls and carpet, rust on the bathroom ceiling fan, a loose toilet, and a shower rod with visibly loose screws. Lamps didn’t work right, and loose outlets wouldn’t hold even the clock plug. The pool was covered, with a tree growing on top, there were no outdoor trash cans, and stained mattresses were propped against windows of other rooms, visible from the parking lot. The outside door card readers didn’t work. When the door shut while we were moving things, the front desk woman said she didn’t know how to get into the room and had no master key. She used a hanger under the door, and was surprisingly good at it, like she’d done it before. There was no security latch on the door. Breakfast was basic, with waffles, eggs, cereal, toast, and oats. They didn’t replenish things or keep an eye on the food after one woman made at least 12 waffles and cleared out the eggs before taking them back to her room. Staff seemed nice, though the language barrier made them hard to understand. Spend extra and stay at the Holiday Inn across the street.

I paid $94 and had to put down a $100 deposit, so I expected a bit more help. They couldn’t even help me get my change back from the vending machine. Disappointing, though I can’t say I’m surprised. Wouldn’t recommend it.
