Gold Crest Motel

The friendly housekeeping staff and clean pool were nice, and the location works well for families with little kids. But the rooms need updating. On our first night, I had a serious allergic reaction to the strong floral cleaning-product smell, which was hard to air out. The kitchen inventory also didn’t match what was advertised: for five of us there were only two plates, eight bowls, 12 mugs, one frying pan, and a small pot. We brought our own supplies, so we managed, but cooking for a bigger family would be difficult otherwise. The sitting area could use a decent pullout sofa bed, too. It was an okay stay, though that heavy scent was a real turnoff.

The staff were quick to help whenever we needed something, whether it was a towel or pillow, or carrying a wagon down the stairs. They even learned our names after check-in. There were activities for all ages, gas grills, and mini golf, plus the pool was thoughtfully divided by height for younger kids’ safety. I hadn’t stayed in a motel for a while and was pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed it. We’ll be back and will recommend it to others.

Our room had a kitchenette, so we cooked there and saved some money. We came with friends for a birthday and ended up loving the place. It was hard to leave, and we’re definitely thinking about coming back someday.

We paid over $300 a night, and it felt like a rip-off. The rooms were tiny, the carpet was stained, and only one room had a window AC, leaving the others hot. The bed had plastic sheets, and the sheets were dirty and torn. I can’t see how this got three stars. Not worth it.
