Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Williamsburg-Historic Gateway by IHG

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable during our overnight stay. The heat shut off whenever we left the room, and the instructions for turning it back on were wrong. They said to use the thermostat, but that didn't work. Not great.

The hotel was great, and the rooms were nice and clean. The only issue was the AC/heater: whenever it kicked on, it blew very cold air before warming up. By the second night, we were used to it and didn't mind anymore.

The staff were the best, and the indoor pool was a nice surprise. The hotel is in a great spot: 8 minutes from Colonial Williamsburg and 4 minutes from modern Williamsburg. The spotless room had a small personal safe, a mini fridge, and a Bible in the drawer. Breakfast was a nice mix of hot and cold items, just what you need to start the day. This place adds to Holiday inn's good name. I'll definitely stay here again.

The staff were excellent throughout, from the quick, easy check-in to the restaurant and bar. Everyone was warm and professional. The lobby made a great first impression, and dinner and drinks were outstanding. Our bartender and server gave excellent service. The nearby accessible parking by the side entrance was very convenient for getting to the building and elevators, and the location was close to lots of popular spots. The One Bedroom Suite, room 305, needs updating. For two people it felt crowded and too narrow, with the two queen beds placed awkwardly close to the walls. The room was always warm and had a strong musty, sour smell that air fresheners couldn't hide. The pillows were extremely flat, the toilet seat was broken and unsightly, and the hand soap ran out by Day 2, though thankfully we'd brought some. Even with every light on, the suite was dim. Some towels and sheets were frayed and should be taken out of rotation, and there weren't many places to charge devices by the beds or nightstand. With more attention to details like the odor, linens, and bathroom fixtures, many of the room problems seem easy to fix. The room fell short even though the staff, location, and dining were great, so we'll probably choose another location next time. Travelers who care more about service and location than the room itself may still be happy here.
