Best Western Plus Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach

The staff really made our stay, and the location was great for the price. Our room was spacious and everything worked. Breakfast had lots to choose from: some things, like the eggs and sausage, were cooked perfectly, though the hash browns and some eggs weren't done well. The room's TV and bathroom could use updates, but we didn't spend much time there. It's a good budget-friendly option in Wilmington, and we'd consider it again.

The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable, and the pet-friendly room was beautifully clean with an outside door nearby. There's also a grassy spot for dogs with bags and a garbage can. The staff were all friendly and great with customers. Breakfast was good, and the woman working there kept everything fresh and clean and made sure guests had what they needed. There are so many restaurants around that choosing lunch or dinner was hard. I liked the area and felt safe. We stayed two nights, but it rained both days, so we couldn't use the pool, which had a sign saying it was closed. I don't know if the weather was why, since it's outdoors. The first-floor ice machine didn't work, but that wasn't a big deal. Best hotel experience we've had in a while. I'd love to come back.

I've had great stays at other Best Westerns and, as a Diamond Rewards member, stay with the brand whenever I can while traveling. This one was easily my worst. They were resealing the parking lot without telling us ahead of time, and my room smelled like an oil refinery. While I was checking out, someone from the company doing the work yelled and cursed at me to move my car. The pool was closed despite the 85-degree weather in early September, and the connected restaurant bar had an extremely limited menu. I'm not sure how this place was considered premiere.

The front desk staff were great, we liked breakfast, and parking was convenient. They also had luggage carts that rolled smoothly. But the Friday and Saturday rate was $200, compared with $100-$150 at competitors, and the experience felt overpriced. The hallways and elevators were very hot, and our room took nearly a day to cool down. There was mold on the tub, ceiling, and shower curtain, plus a fruit fly in the shower. Lint from the towels got in my hair and formed gross little balls on my skin after I used lotion. Our floor's ice machine was broken, so getting ice meant riding the hot elevator. On Sunday morning as we were leaving, there was poop and a pair of panties on the sidewalk right by the pool. The beach, river walk, and greenfield are all about 20 minutes away. The stay was decent overall, but I don't think it was worth the price.
