Super 8 Motel - Wilmington

The mattress was very hard, the old shower heads were unpleasant, and the bathroom air-conditioning vent didn’t work. The sheets and comforter were old, full of smoke holes and small tears, even though we asked for a nonsmoking room. For $128.98 plus a $50 hold, it wasn’t worth it. I’ve never had a holding fee like that at another hotel. There was no fire detector, and all the fire sprinklers were disabled. The microwave was so old it seemed like it could catch food on fire. When I went to close the curtains, I noticed the air conditioner cover wasn’t attached. There were car fresheners in the lamps, and the microwave was bolted to the refrigerator, the refrigerator to the floor, and the TV to the nightstand. It all looked really unprofessional. Don’t believe every Google photo of this hotel. It isn’t like that.

There was no garbage can, the bathroom smelled moldy, and the bath mat was moldy too. I found a dead bug in there, pee on the toilet seat when we arrived, and some strange stuff on the shower floor. We got no breakfast, even though we booked a stay with free breakfast. I guess that was just as well, since I wouldn’t trust the food to be free of bugs or germs. I want to douse myself in Lysol and bleach.

Our first night wasn’t what we had booked. We’d reserved a king bed a week in advance, but they put us in a tiny room with a small bed and said that would be our room for the whole weekend. We went sightseeing Saturday morning, and when we got back later, our key didn’t work. At the office, the man said they had us down as checking out, even though he knew we weren’t. They moved us to another room, which was the one we should have had all along. But the phone didn’t work, the curtains were dry-rotted, the lamps and shades were rusty, and the comforters were full of burn holes. All the rooms smelled musty and of mildew. The carpets were filthy, like someone had spilled motor oil on them. This place needs updating, especially with all the money it brings in. I won’t be back or recommend it to anyone. I’d be embarrassed to send someone here. It’s nasty.

The front desk staff were friendly, but my aunt and grandmother didn’t feel safe. My aunt saw crowds gathered around cars outside, smoking, drinking, and being obnoxious. People were talking loudly in different languages through the walls. The hall carpets were disgusting and stained, and everything smelled moldy. They even had a dehumidifier running in the hall. When they opened their room, the mildew smell hit them in the face. My aunt immediately got a headache, and my grandmother’s nose started running. They pulled back the sheets to check for bedbugs and found a mattress covered in stains with a big hole in it. The staff weren’t surprised when they decided to leave before finishing their stay. They found a room at a Marriott in historic Wilmington and joked they’d rather sleep on its hallway floor than stay here. Moral of the story, go somewhere else!
