The Historic Brookstown Inn, Trademark Collection by Wyndham

We'd definitely come back. From the moment we arrived until we left, all the staff were welcoming and kind. Our spacious, clean, well equipped second-floor room had everything we needed. The hot breakfast in the morning was perfect, and the wine and cheese reception in the evening was a nice touch. Old Salem is within easy walking distance. Since this is an old building, we could hear guests walking around upstairs, but it quieted down by evening. It didn't bother us, though it's useful to know what to expect.

The bed in our room was a little lumpy, and the tree lights outside room 154 shone straight through the blinds at night. Those were the only small issues, and neither had much effect on our stay. My wife and I liked being able to explore on foot, and Misty the bartender did a fantastic job arranging the cheese and wine. It was a lovely way to unwind in the evening. We were in the East Wing over New Year, and the historic character is clear as soon as you walk around the buildings and grounds. The complimentary breakfast was phenomenal, especially the sausages, some of the best we've had anywhere. The Historic Brookstown Inn | Trademark Collection by Wyndham was a unique and memorable place to stay in Winston-Salem. We'd happily return and recommend it to anyone after a comfortable stay with some history.

The breakfast had plenty to choose from, including eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, plus cold items. They also put out fresh cookies and milk at bedtime, and the common area is comfortable. The evening lounge offers a complimentary glass of wine or beer with cheese and crackers. The rooms are roomy and nicely furnished, and the bed was especially comfortable. It’s a distinctive old mill property with lots of charm, within walking distance of Old Salem and several restaurants. The staff were friendly and professional. I can’t say enough good things about this place.

The bed was the one real downside for me. I woke up several times, and a few others in my conference group said they hadn’t slept well either. That makes it hard to feel eager to return, even though I liked the room’s appearance, especially the bathroom, and the service was good. The front desk staff were very nice, and the cheese and wine reception was a lovely touch. It’s a quaint inn, and my room itself was very nice. Finding my way around took some effort, though, since the floors aren’t laid out like a typical hotel and you have to go outside and back in to reach some rooms. Breakfast was okay.
