Deer Trail Motel

The room smelled musty and was freezing because the heat didn’t work. The refrigerator was broken too, and the toilets were tiny, like toddler size. I couldn’t shower because there were no clean towels or washcloths. There were spiders in the shower, brown and red stains on the sheets, and an uneven bed that tilted when I lay down. I showed the owner all the problems and asked politely for a refund, but she didn’t want to hear me or give one. She said she cleans all the motel rooms herself and runs the front office, which I don’t see how she could do properly. Her attitude was horrible. This motel was a waste of money. Never go here.

We had nine rooms for a big family reunion at Deer Trail Motel, and everyone loved it. The rooms were more spacious than we expected, beautifully decorated, and had comfortable beds. Outside, there’s room to sit together and catch up, plus a cute playground for kids of all ages and a nice pool. It’s in a quiet spot but still close enough to walk downtown. We fell in love with the owner, Tasha. She’s so sweet and works hard to make your stay enjoyable. Her prices are reasonable, too. Everyone agreed we’ll come back next year!

The pool was the one good part of our stay, and it was very nice. We basically only slept at the motel, though, and won’t come back next year when we return to Wisconsin Dells. At check-in, the owner said there were no rooms, despite the vacancy sign being lit. I showed paperwork for three rooms with double beds, then an email confirming the reservation from her website. She still insisted we had no reservation and was booked all weekend. After reading the email, she went to the back office and returned clearly irritated, saying she had three single rooms. It was convenient that suddenly there were three rooms available, all near each other. My family was in unit #19. The bed was uneven and tilted when you lay down, the bathroom tiles had several cracks, and the living room light was held together with Duct tape. My mother’s room, #20, reeked of marijuana. When my mom complained, the owner said, “the rooms no smell. This is my motel. You don't like then leave”. We tried airing it out, but it still smelled the next day. My sister’s room, #21, reeked of cat urine.

The owners are nice, and the beds are comfortable with sheets I like. The room has a good-sized closet and bathroom, plus an apartment-style stove and a good-sized refrigerator. There are plates and silverware, but no pots or pans. I love the floors in the room. Out back there are plastic toys and slides for kids, and the outdoor pool gets very deep at the deep end.
