The included breakfast was a real highlight: lots of choices beyond the usual, crispy bacon, freshly made egg dishes, and a very tasty Vegetarian Quiche. The Chef checked in often, and two attendants kept everything supplied. There were actual plates and silverware, not plastic. The hotel seems designed to be a 4 star hotel and Convention Center, but it hasn’t been maintained and needs a refresh. Nothing was horrible, but things felt lacking. The rooms had a good layout and were acceptable, though they needed a more thorough cleaning in the corners. There was no ice in the machine. The pool looked nice and was very large, and there was plenty of parking, though the lot wasn’t very full. Food in the Restaurant was just adequate, and the server was inexperienced and made a lot of mistakes. Luckily for him, it was dead on a Saturday night. I would stay there again.

The room felt dusty and not especially clean. The beds were comfortable, but the pillows were old and small, the furniture was dated and worn, and so was the carpet. There was just one small garbage can in the bathroom, the towels were small and worn, and the tub had rust at the bottom. The soap, shampoo, and conditioner dispensers were full and seemed decent quality. Wallpaper seams were starting to separate in the old section, and the elevator was extremely dirty and smelled musty. The TV was a decent size and a smart TV, so remember to sign out of your apps. We live in this city and needed a place while our plumbing at home was being fixed. The website says there’s room service and champagne at check-in, but neither was available. We picked The Mead partly because we wanted dinner delivered to the room. Door Dash says lobby delivery only for this property, but ignore that, they’ll bring it to your room. I hope management updates the website. I want this business to thrive since it’s one of the oldest still around in our dying city, but if the lack of quality control continues, I’m afraid it’ll go the way of many others.

The room itself was decent, but it was very uncomfortable without working AC. The woman checking in ahead of me had already tried two rooms with no AC, and I had none either. Two of my co-workers also had the same problem. When I asked for another room, I was offered a box fan. The clerk said construction was happening and no other rooms had properly working AC. I should have asked for my money back. This was the most expensive place in town, and I wasn’t comfortable at all. Guests should be told at check-in that the rooms are hotter than the hubs of hell.

The only good part was the Whitney restaurant, though you pay more there. The room menus list prices that are ALOT cheaper than the menus in the restaurant, so that needs updating. It’s false advertising. I won’t stay again, it was a waste of money. When I booked the night before, I was told the pool and hot tub would be working, but neither was. Breakfast wasn’t warm, and most of it was burnt or not fully cooked. Checkout was 11am, but at 945 housekeeping walked right into our room without knocking. There should 100% be a rule about that!

I found the Kleenex box and shower soap empty. I told the front desk, and when I got back there were fresh towels, but the soap hadn’t been refilled and the empty Kleenex box was still there. The elevator trim has been taped off for a year as if it were going to be painted, but it still hasn’t been done. The drywall in my room looked like it had been repaired by an 8 year old. It feels like they’re squeezing every $ out of this place without putting any $ into repairs. I won’t stay again unless they start making improvements and show they care.
