Hotel Rivera

It pains me to give it four stars; maybe it should be 4.5. This is a very clean, exceptionally well-run family boutique hotel, and the location works perfectly if you're taking the bus or ferry, both only a block or two away. A few little things kept it from getting five stars: the sheets and towels were threadbare, there was nowhere to hang clothes, the shower wasn't great, and there was no hot water during the day. Still, it's well worth staying here.

It really feels like coming home here. Everyone, from the front desk and kitchen to the cleaners, is warm, sweet, and helpful, and they all make you feel cared for. When I got sick and needed to go to the hospital, Ana Cecelia at reception offered me a ride and came inside to explain my situation to the receptionist. I'm so grateful. The staff have all checked in on how I was feeling since, and it means a lot to return somewhere that cares. Their kindness is priceless.

The stairs were the one real challenge for me. They're narrow, with a short flight between reception and the dining area, then another flight to the rooms. Getting my 25kg suitcase up and down was hard. The room itself was a decent size and everything was in order. The location is really convenient: about five minutes on foot from the ferry terminal, probably less than five minutes to downtown, and close to the bus terminal too. The breakfast setup was interesting. You choose what you want from a vending machine, then staff put in coins to get the items. They can warm food such as empanadas in the microwave next to it. It's listed as a 2-star place, but I think it's more like a 3-star. A short, enjoyable stay, close to restaurants, sights, and transport. Recommended.

The staff were so nice and helpful. The hotel itself was lovely, clean, quiet, and very good.
