I came across this place by chance and will remember it forever. The setting is delightful, picturesque, and peaceful, and the food is truly gourmet. It's aptly named, an absolute gem not to be missed.

We made a last-minute day trip from Buenos Aires to Río Ancho and couldn't have been happier. Marcelo and the staff were warm, welcoming, and accommodating, and we felt at home right away. The food and wine were amazing, and the scenery was beautiful. We'd happily return and stay overnight, and highly recommend it.

The dining room was quiet and intimate, with gorgeous sunset views. We were greeted by Chef Federico, who gave us a quick tour of the beautiful, peaceful property. We came to Rio Ancho restaurant while vacationing in Uruguay, and the short ride from our hotel in Colonia was well worth it. The chef prepared a surprise tasting menu for us, paired with a local bottle of Tannat. Every course was delicious and beautifully presented. We had sweet breads, beet carpaccio, braised lamb shoulder, goat cheese cheesecake, and more. The bread service was the best we had in Uruguay, with several accompaniments, including rich locally made flavored butter and a lightly seasoned pulled rabbit spread. From the bread to the expertly made courses and desserts, everything was top notch. Service was friendly and attentive. The chef himself brought each dish to our table. In every way, this restaurant was several steps above the other places we tried in Colonia. We highly recommend dining at Rio Ancho if you're staying in or near Colonia.
