Nuevo Hotel Aramaya

We were frightened by how different the place was from the pictures. The room was tiny, dirty, and smelled bad, and the internet barely worked. We didn't know anyone nearby and needed wi-fi to communicate. My daughter and I were traveling alone, after having had only good experiences in Latin America, so this was especially upsetting. The area felt dangerous to us, and we were standing outside with all our bags at 7 at night after a long day of travel, tired and scared. The desk clerk was very emotional. I speak decent Spanish, but during our brief time there he kept talking over me, almost shouting. We called the cab driver who had brought us from the airport and begged him to come help. When we tried to leave with our bags, the clerk came downstairs and confronted us. I had to reassure him that it was the room, not his behavior, that made us leave, and then put up with an uncomfortable hug before he let us go. He did help carry the bags down and told us to call in the morning about a refund. He didn't physically threaten us or prevent us leaving, but the encounter made things difficult and upset us both. We nearly canceled the rest of our holiday, but eventually found the hotel carrasco and stayed there for the rest of the week. I tried to report the problem to booking.com, but couldn't manage to make a report through its site.
