East House Hotel

We found this to be the best guest house of our time in Uzbekistan. The owners were kind and helpful, and the place was clean, comfortable, and well equipped. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty, and there’s coffee and tea available around the clock. Registan Square is about a 10-minute walk away, and the price was very reasonable.

The room had everything, including a TV with Netflix, air conditioning, and a kettle. Breakfast came with the room and had a decent variety; the host even asked whether I wanted extra sausage or an egg. She speaks Russian and was so kind and welcoming, just as other reviews said. The hotel may be a little far from Registan, but you can get a Yandex there. Laundry costs 5 USD. I’d come back if I get the chance.

The owners are lovely and looked after us with real care. The guesthouse feels like part of a family home, in a quiet old neighborhood in the heart of Samarkand. It’s around a 10-minute walk to Registan and most of the main sights. Everything was neat and clean, breakfast was great, and coffee and tea were available 24/7.

The woman managing the place was kind and tried hard to make us comfortable, but she seemed to be doing everything herself as cleaner, cook, and manager, and there was no reception. The rest of the stay was disappointing. We thought we had booked a hotel, but it turned out to be someone’s private home. The listing photos only showed rooms and a panoramic view, so we didn’t know what to expect. Our room had little privacy, and we could hear things outside even when speaking quietly. The bathroom flush didn’t work properly, either. We paid 45 dollars a night, but felt we could have found a better hotel in the city center. The location felt unsafe, especially at night, and it was far enough away that we had to rely on Yandex to get around. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone wanting a real hotel experience.
