Timur the Great

Even though we arrived at about 4 a.m., they were able to let us into our rooms. Timur and his family were incredibly friendly, and Timur even helped explain our next destination to the taxi driver. The hotel is very central, with sights such as the registan within walking distance. Breakfast had plenty of variety too, including tea, vegetables, fruit, omelette, and even baklava. Definitely recommend it!

The thing I’ll remember most is Timur and his family. Their hospitality made me feel less like a hotel guest and more like a friend, even a temporary part of the household. They’re hardworking, honest people with big hearts, and they went out of their way to help without waiting to be asked. Thanks to them, I saw Samarkand and its secrets through a different lens, and after many years they reminded me what’s truly worth experiencing first. This little hotel is a good choice if you want to understand Uzbekistan through its people and daily life. You won’t find a high-tech room, but there’s what you need: a comfortable bed, clean towels, a simple wardrobe, proper air conditioning, and a functional bathroom. I was lucky enough to experience both luxury hotels and famous historic sites as well as this more personal side of the country. The magnificent madrasas, mosques, and mausoleums mean more when you’ve met the wholehearted people behind the place. To me, the beauty of human souls is what can build such beautiful things.

I visited in winter, and my room was warm, which wasn’t the case everywhere I stayed in Uzbekistan. It was also new and very spacious. Timur was kind, and arranging a late checkout on my departure day was no problem. Breakfast was adequate, though not as impressive as at some other places. A nice guesthouse in a good location.

This was the best place we stayed on our Uzbekistan trip. The room was clean and comfortable, with a cozy feel and a big bed, and the price was cheap. Breakfast was simple but tasty and included. The host was friendly and helpful, and shops and restaurants were close by.
