Reikartz Termez Palace

We were meant to stay here for seven weeks as government contractors, but after just one week we checked out and moved to an older hotel. This is among the worst hotel experiences I've had. I work in Africa, and its hotels are much better than this one. We have permanent contracts here, but decided we won't use this place for our courses. The rooms are spacious but very dirty, and in most of them the AC doesn't work, so it gets to about 87-90°F. There are no amenities. You have to ask the desk guy for coffee, and he usually acts angry about getting it. I've even seen a guy asleep behind the bar, and staff sleeping on couches in the main area. It's ridiculous. There are seven or eight angry male staff members. The hotel needs new management, and these workers should be fired. They need to bring in female staff too, because these guys don't know what they're doing.

The pool downstairs was decent, and breakfast was great, but there were plenty of problems elsewhere. The rooms were dirty, the drain was broken, there were no smoke detectors, and the beds weren't comfortable. Staff were rude, and someone woke us at 5am without asking.

The most beautiful Termez mosque is right across the road, which makes the hotel's location a real plus. The property has a lot of potential and may be the best hotel in Termez, but it needs proper management. It needs a thorough clean throughout, and the towels and other things need replacing. The front desk staff didn't provide the warm Uzbek hospitality we expected.

The new room had a socket hanging off the wall, and the shower curtain was dirty around the bottom. At checkout, the reception guys were watching Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines video on a phone. They didn't greet me or ask about the stay, just asked, "who is paying"! It's a shame, because this hotel could be great with the right staff and a professional work ethic. I hope the owner replaces the reception guys with someone who cares about customer service. This is the longest review I've written, and I've stayed in a lot of hotels. It began at check-in: we said we had six rooms booked, and the guy at reception said, "No five". In my room the toilet wouldn't flush and the bathroom smelled, so I went back to ask for another room. The same guy said there were no single rooms left and I'd have to wait for mine to be cleaned again. I asked for a double, but he refused unless I paid more. I said I'd find another hotel then, and he said, "fine ok". While I looked for another place, he disappeared. When he came back, he admitted, "yes the toilet is broken, our bad" and said they'd move me. Then he abruptly told me, "come get your key".
