Bougainvilla Hotel

Corinne, Shinelle, Ali and the team were so helpful, thank you for all your kindness. I really enjoyed sitting at the waterfront bar and relaxing on both the front and back balconies. My upstairs room had a balcony too, and it was spacious, airy and full of light. The place has a faded, old-time feel, but also plenty of charm, a great location and a decent restaurant.

The staff were so uncaring, lazy and arrogant that I eventually chose to go next door to baracuda for friendlier service. Tipping didn’t change anything, and I met other people who’d had the same experience. Such a shame, and I won’t be back. There isn’t a beach nearby. The restaurant has a nice setting and good food, but the service was horrible. The hotel itself was a good choice, with a very clean, large room, and Corinne from reservations was super nice and helpful.

Corinne, the hotel manager, was lovely, friendly and helpful. The restaurant underneath is very good, and the location is handy for kitesurfing. Our room was big, with beautiful furniture, but the bathroom needed maintenance and the lack of lighting felt strange. There were only bedside lamps in the bedroom. We also had to spray ourselves with OFF every night because there were no mosquito nets over the beds. Internet was painfully slow, even email wouldn’t load, though we’d stayed in other hotels on the island where that wasn’t a problem. It’s a great fit if you’ll be out kitesurfing all day, less so if you have other plans too.

We had our dog with us and asked three times for water, but they wouldn’t help because they said they had nothing to put it in. Later, we were told to pay up and leave, which made the message pretty clear: get out. We were the only customers for three hours and spent $436 on food and drinks for five people, so I’d have thought we were decent clients. The staff were incredibly unfriendly, didn’t bring drinks to our table, and seemed more interested in their phones than serving us. A complete service disaster, and a sad example of a nice place being run into the ground by unfriendly staff.
