Thuan Phat Hotel

The pool is a nice bonus for kids, and the service was great. Our room was new, clean, and had good air conditioning. Prices are on the higher side, but you get what you pay for. If your budget allows, this is a good place to stay in Soc Trang.

For a small town like SOC Trang, this is an excellent option. It's a good basic hotel, with a good restaurant right next door.

The pool was well kept and enjoyable, though restaurant guests can see you swimming and sometimes come over to take photos. The view was nice, with pretty sunsets. There are some places to eat within walking distance and a grocery store a bit farther away, though most people seem to get around by motorbike. The cafe beside the hotel served good drinks and light breakfast and lunch, and its staff were much more pleasant. The room bathroom was fine, but the shower wasn't fully enclosed, so water splashed onto the floor. We had hot water on the first day, then only cold water on the remaining nights. My main problem was cleanliness. There were gecko droppings on the wall molding in several spots, including up by the ceiling, and we eventually found a gecko in the room on our last night. I don't mind geckos, but the buildup was obvious as soon as you entered, so it didn't seem like it had happened in just one day. After our first night, we asked the front desk to mop and clean the walls. With the language barrier, I think they only did basic housekeeping. The floors were still sticky and grimy, and if they were mopped, it didn't make much difference. Bring slippers. I've attached photos. We were traveling as a group and had a few rooms. Mine had these issues, while the overall experience felt like three stars from a Western tourist's point of view. Compared with other hotels I looked at nearby, I might stay here again, but the rooms need a much better clean.

The room was comfy and the hotel was nice. I stayed in room 303, though, and at night the light kept mysteriously switching on and off. We also heard strange noises. Still, it was okay overall.
