Hoi An Viet House

Thanh made the stay feel special. She’s a lovely, hardworking host. We also loved wandering the pretty, narrow streets nearby, just beyond the busiest tourist area. The room was roomy, the bed was comfortable, and the place was spotless wherever we looked. Just right for a stay in Hoi An.

The access setup made everything stressful: there was one key for the room, the locked main entrance, and the front gate with its padlock. We couldn’t come and go separately without risking someone being locked out, so we had to coordinate every return. The bedding was awful, with mold stains and marks that looked like urine, and there were ants in the bed. We couldn’t get a comfortable night’s sleep. We were three people staying one night, and the owner’s welcome was hostile from the outset. She was rude and aggressive, accused us of stealing and lying without any valid reason, and left us feeling unwelcome the whole time. Between that treatment, the filthy bedding, and the impractical keys, it was a terrible stay. I’d strongly recommend avoiding this homestay. Hoi An has plenty of cleaner, friendlier, more professional places.

We were really happy with our stay, and the price felt very good for what we got. The owner had a nice vibe and was helpful with renting a bike and explaining how to get to the beach. She cleaned the room when we asked. A couple of small things: she seemed quite nervous about getting paid, as if we might run away, though I don’t remember exactly. Also, the water situation in the room was different from other places we stayed in Vietnam. Maybe they could leave two small bottles and let people buy larger bottles and beer downstairs. Still, we had a very good time.

The room’s condition was the main problem. The deluxe room was extremely dirty, with badly maintained sheets and towels that weren’t acceptably clean. There was still hair in the bathroom from previous guests, and during a shower the hair clogged the drain until the bathroom turned into a pool 😂🏊. The owner was nice, and the location was just okay.
