The Mansion Hoi An by Minova

At least the linens were clean and comfortable, but the rest of our stay was a letdown. The photos look nice, yet on arrival we were first shown the wrong room, which smelled of chemicals. A few minutes later the staff moved us to our actual room. It looked better at first, but the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned and the previous guests had left it filthy. We raised it with the staff, who gave it a quick clean, and we spent that night there. We asked for a refund so we could stay somewhere else, but decided to sort it out the next day. They offered us a larger room with a private pool, and moving seemed easier than finding another place. That room was clean, but the pool was filthy and had what looked like broken ceramic at the bottom, so we didn’t use it. The chemical smell was still there, and we had to leave the patio door open and the fan running to air the room out. That made it hard to sleep. The bathroom was clean, but the place looked moldy and unfinished, as the photos show. I’m fine with cosmetic issues when the price and advertisement reflect them, but that wasn’t the case here. Very disappointed with the quality and cleanliness.

At 950 per night for Tet, we got no breakfast, there were no staff on duty, and the soap and conditioner hadn’t been refilled. The pool wasn’t available either. The hotel is badly maintained and nothing like the pictures they posted earlier. Floors and stairs were dirty, and the street outside was loud and busy, with doors that had no soundproofing at all.

The receptionist, who may have been the owner, was almost never around, and there was no way for us to contact him with questions. That was frustrating. There was also a strong moldy smell. The reality was a shock compared with the photos, which often make places look a little better. We forgot to take pictures for this review, but the defective lamp in the picture section gives you an idea. We had a really unpleasant stay and wouldn’t recommend the place. If we hadn’t checked in so late, we might have moved to another hotel.

The room was okay, but the rest of the place was disappointing. There was little to no staff, the free bikes were falling apart, and so was the building. The walls and windows were paper thin, and the pool was too dirty to use. An underwhelming stay.
