Halong Lavender Hotel

The rooms are really spacious and clean, and there's a rooftop swimming pool. Kathy (Khanh) is a gracious, very professional host who speaks perfect English. The rest of the staff were polite and friendly too. They served a full English breakfast, and for me this is easily the best hotel in Ha long bay. Five stars.

The room felt small, and I thought the decor was a little dated. Still, it was a decent stay for the very low price I paid in low season. The service was nice and helpful, and the Sun Premier resort location was good. Guests also get a pool and free bikes, which some of the other villas there don't offer.

Really comfortable room, and the staff were supportive. The service was excellent.

We gave it two stars only because we reached the manager and got a full refund for that awful night. Otherwise, I couldn't give it more than one, or even zero. The hotel was old and dirty, with very little sense of service. The bed linen had lots of yellow stains. Construction noise started banging at 6 a.m. and carried on all day, so sleeping or resting after a long trip was impossible. The place was clearly still being built, but neither the booking listing nor our arrival mentioned that. There was no restaurant or breakfast, and the so-called rooftop pool was still under construction. Service was terrible. When things got uncomfortable, the crew seemed to pretend they couldn't speak or understand English. We told the receptionist we could see what he was doing, and suddenly he was able to communicate in English. The location felt like a strange ghost town, a poor imitation of European streets with hardly any restaurants or signs of life. It was mostly lost tourists trying to find food and drinks. At night, karaoke went on until 1 a.m., and we could hear it clearly in our room.
