Green Homestay

We ended up extending our stay to five nights. It’s a great quiet base for enjoying the nature of Cat Ba, with an easy local bus into town. The cabins are comfortable and have private verandahs. There’s a spacious yard with lots of flowering plants and a nice-sized pool. The owners and staff are welcoming and friendly, and Hanna efficiently helped us book accommodation, transport, and tours. It really does feel like a home stay, a calm spot to rest.

We spent the best week here unwinding after travelling through Vietnam. It cost 600d (£12) a night, and the location suited us perfectly, tucked into the hills with a gorgeous view. There’s a scooter hire shop next door and what we thought was the best bar in Cat Ba just a three-minute walk away. Cat Ba town is about 15 minutes off, and after seeing what’s happened to it, we were glad to be away from it. It’s genuinely heartbreaking. Google Cat Ba town before and after 2025 and I’m sorry in advance. If you’re coming for the natural beauty, freedom, and chance to switch off, you probably won’t want to spend time in town anyway. The location was pretty good, and I’d definitely come back. The rooms were clean and cozy, and everyone was so friendly and helpful, with fantastic service. Their pho was one of the best, cheap and tasty, and came with a complimentary fruit bowl. They also rent scooters and offer Ha Long Bay tours with kayaking and swimming.

If you want a quieter, more relaxing part of the island, this is a good choice. The little village gets quiet by evening, and you’re close to the city without staying in it. I had a great stay at Green Homestay. My room was clean and comfortable, with a great water view from the main building. The staff were kind, attentive, and outgoing. The young woman at reception was especially nice and easy to talk to.
