Gallant Hotel

This was one of our worst hotel stays. Before we arrived, they said they'd only hold our room until 6 PM unless we paid a 600,000 VND deposit in advance. That should have been made clear when booking. Paying was nearly impossible for us without a Vietnamese bank account, so a family member had to call and transfer the money for us. We arrived at 11 PM, and the hotel asked us to cancel our Booking reservation so they could avoid the commission. By then it was too late to cancel without a fee because Booking charges penalties after 6 PM. The hotel later marked us as “No-Show” anyway. They gave us just 30,000 VND as “compensation” for this, which felt almost insulting. They also wouldn't take cards, only full payment in cash at check-in, which seemed highly unprofessional and unusual for a hotel. Our first room was right by the elevator, with people shouting and doors slamming all night. We paid an extra 100,000 VND per night to change rooms, but the beds in both rooms were uncomfortable, with springs poking through. The fridge in each room was so loud that we had to switch it off at night. There were cockroaches, and cockroach eggs on our last day, even though we hadn't eaten in the room. In the first bathroom, there were insects and the floor flooded completely after a shower. In the second, the bathroom walls were so thin we could hear every word from the neighbors, leaving us with no privacy. At checkout, the hotel tried to charge for minibar items we hadn't used. I asked several times for them to check the room, but they refused. They only took off the charges after a long argument. The air conditioning worked perfectly, and we got two free bottles of water, tea, and coffee each day. The second room also had a bathtub, so at least that bathroom didn't flood. Those few positives were completely overshadowed by the number and seriousness of the problems. The hotel was unprofessional, unhygienic, and dishonest. We'll never stay here again, and I strongly advise others to avoid it.
