La Suite Hotel

The breakfast was decent, with eggs cooked when you ask, bacon, sausages, several kinds of noodles, fruit, toast and spreads, plus cereal, tea and coffee. It’s a reasonably priced little place. The rooms are okay but dated, and the deluxe rooms facing the street can get noise from nightlife that carries on late.

It’s easy to explore the Old Town on foot from here, with late-opening shops and cafes and bars close by. Our room was clean and roomy enough for four, and the staff were friendly. Internet was available. The beds bounce around a lot, though, and the towels are small and not very good quality. I’d booked months ahead at $70 a night, then saw the rate drop to $25 in the week we traveled.

We really enjoyed the filling, flavorful breakfast, especially having authentic Vietnamese dishes to choose from. For our honeymoon they had arranged towels with roses and petals, which was a lovely touch. The rooms at La Suite hotel are clean, though basic and small. The showers were the big letdown. They’re old and awkward to figure out, the water wasn’t hot and the pressure was weak. Each time we used one there was also a strange sulfur smell. I’d have rated the stay higher, but a working shower feels essential in a hotel.

There are plenty of places to eat nearby, and the staff were helpful and friendly. Our local travel agency booked us in for four nights. The standard room was quite small, though a suite had a more comfortable amount of space. The hotel and its furniture are old, and noise from the club next door came through because the soundproofing is poor. On our last night, we found lots of ants on the bed and a small cockroach in the bathroom. There’s room for improvement, so keep expectations modest.
