This wasn't our first time at Moonlight Hotel in Hanoi, which made this stay's poor condition and service especially disappointing. The hotel badly needs renovation. There was mold in the bathroom, some furniture was defective, the rice cooker's interior was heavily scratched, and the floor was damaged. Several air conditioning units on the outer wall, or perhaps just one of them, made so much noise and vibration that we couldn't sleep properly. Our room wasn't ready at the agreed time. Once we finally got in, there was trash behind the bathroom door. There were four of us but only two towels and two drinking glasses, and no toilet paper at all when we checked in. When we asked for the missing things, the staff brought only two rolls of toilet paper for four people and told us to use plastic cups instead of providing more glasses. The unfriendly receptionist even said we should “save” on toilet paper. The service was consistently rude and unhelpful. We were relieved to leave after a few days, found somewhere else to stay, and immediately canceled our next booking at Moonlight. For us, this was a complete letdown and no way to treat guests, especially returning guests who had chosen the hotel repeatedly. We definitely won't be back.

The lake-view room was a highlight. I spent a lovely moment on the balcony with a book, away from Hanoi's chaos, and the hotel is within walking distance of great restaurants and cozy coffee places. Having a washing machine in the room was a bonus too. Bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper: around 5:30 in the morning, local Vietnamese residents start exercising right outside with music, which can be noisy. I found it part of the city's lively charm. My first night was in a clean, tidy two-bedroom apartment without a view, which was fine for one night. The furniture was dated, though, especially the sofa. You almost sink to the floor when you sit on it, so it could use a refresh. The next day I moved to a room overlooking the lake and loved it. A great place to stay, and I'd make sure to book a lake-view room.

Hoang Anh at reception made our visit especially memorable. She was warm, knew the area well, and gave us genuinely useful suggestions for things to do. The rest of the team looked after us too, and the room was clean and comfortable, just what we wanted. We’d happily come back to Moonlight Tay Ho and recommend it to others.

The quiet setting worked well for my work trip, and the little desk was handy. Having a washer-dryer was useful too. Getting around from the lakeside road took some effort, though. I ended up walking to the next road so Grab drivers could reach me more easily. The room felt cramped around the bed, which was very springy. In the bathroom, water gets across the floor because there’s no shower curtain, and the showerhead is fixed too low to adjust. No conditioner or coffee were provided, but nearby shops sell those small extras.

We first stayed at Moonlight in 2023, when my husband and I met, and liked the facilities, service, and staff enough to recommend it to friends and family afterward. For our wedding recently, we booked eight rooms, and the team made the whole arrangement easy. Alice stood out for the way she greeted everyone with a smile and stayed patient and kind even when our family, kids included, got noisy. Liam was a big help as well, including when we needed assistance at one or two in the morning. Moonlight has now become part of our wedding memories as well as our travels. I’m grateful to the whole team.
