Parkside Sunline Hotel

It’s nice to be a little outside Hanoi’s main center and the Old Quarter, which can get crazy. Taxis and motorbikes arrive within minutes, so getting around is easy. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and my room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. A great hotel. I’d happily stay again.

The breakfast had a good variety of dishes and was quite nice, including some Japanese food, since it’s connected with a Japanese enterprise. Staff were great about calling taxis for us to go downtown or elsewhere, and could communicate in both English and Mandarin. The location is a bit away from the old town, but that didn’t bother us. It’s quieter than downtown.

The hotel has great service, friendly staff, and an amazing breakfast. The room was clean but small, which was fine since I was travelling alone. It’s easy to walk around nearby or take a short drive to the Old Quarter. I used Grab, which was fast and cheap. I gave the property three stars because the fridge kept waking me up. I arrived around 1am, desperately needing rest, and at first I thought someone was knocking on my door. The fridge was inside the cupboard next to the door, so I didn’t know what the sound was. Every five or ten minutes, a loud bang would jolt me awake just as I was dozing off. It was terrifying, and I had nightmares during the few minutes I managed to sleep. I mentioned it to a staff member, who said that explained why I looked tired at breakfast and that they’d look into it. By the third day I figured out it was the fridge and wasn’t scared anymore, but its banging still interrupted my sleep. I hope they remove it so no one else has to go through that fear and lack of sleep.

If you want a relaxed stay without dressing ostentatiously, I’d avoid this place. I felt the staff treated people worse if they wore simple clothes. I booked a room for two, then my son arrived late unexpectedly, so we had to let him stay with us. We paid the additional fees, but the receptionist still treated us as though we were lesser people for not booking another room in advance. At breakfast they wouldn’t let us eat, even though I’d paid the fee. I was left out because only two people were allowed, and they kept sneering at my brother while he ate. It made the experience deeply unpleasant. They talked about us behind our backs and treated us like dogs. One of the worst hotel trips I’ve ever witnessed.
