Sazi Homestay

We arrived at the map pin at 4pm and couldn't find the hotel. We walked around for two hours, asked locals who had never heard of it, and called multiple hotel numbers again and again with no answer. We also messaged through Booking.com and got no reply. It was getting dark, and after a long flight and stressful day, we were two young women travelling with our luggage. We found a door we thought might be the entrance, but there was no sign. After knocking several times without an answer, we spoke with a builder, who said he hadn't realized it was a hotel and that we'd need a key to get in. At 6:40 we gave up and sat in a cafe. It wasn't unreasonable to expect someone to be there, since we'd arrived at 4. About an hour and a half later, the owner messaged me. There was no apology for the missed calls or messages. He asked for my passport and payment details, sent a location pin that brought us to the same door, and said he wouldn't let us in until we'd paid and provided our passport information. He was very standoffish and unhelpful, didn't seem to understand that anything was wrong, and insisted he'd replied immediately on Booking.com, which wasn't true. He kept saying the hotel was his house. The alley felt very unsafe, with builders and people hanging around, no streetlights, and no sign on the supposed hotel door. We also didn't feel safe sending passport details and payment through a WhatsApp link just to get inside. We booked another hotel at the last minute in Hanoi because we were both extremely uncomfortable and stressed. Avoid this place if you don't want to spend hours wandering around with all your bags.
