We booked our four rooms online months before the trip, but the hotel looked nothing like the photos when we arrived. It's down a small alley, and the elevator is tiny, about enough space for four Canadians. At the desk, we were told check-in was at 2 pm, even though the booking site had said 6 am. The staff member was rude despite us speaking politely in fluent Vietnamese. Our group had 12 people, nine adults and three entrants, but only one room was ready because the other rooms were still being cleaned. We accepted it for the time being, but the room was nothing like the pictures either: cramped, with one double bed instead of two twins, and the AC didn't work. Horrible customer service. Now I understand why it's called ONO, it's OH NO!

The staff are really friendly and helpful, and the value and location are great. It's in the heart of the city but tucked into a little alley, a few minutes' walk from the main backpacker district. The market is about 10 minutes away, and there are 24-hour coffee shops just outside. One tip: if you're tall, skip the vip room. Its circular bed is more frustrating than practical.

The staff were great, and I had a really pleasant stay. Ben Thanh Market is just a five-minute walk away, with Independence Palace about 15 minutes on foot, so getting around was easy. The hotel is tucked away from the busy streets, which meant a welcome break from all the honking. It’s a small place with 14 rooms, two per floor. My room and bathroom were neat and clean, and the basics were there: air conditioning, a mini fridge, small TV, cupboard, and hot water.

At Ono Saigon Hotel, I had a temporary home away from home for the night. I was there on my own, but didn’t feel alone. The party keeps going until you pass out.
