Cherry Hotel and Apartment

Getting into Division 1 was easy: a short walk and a cross-the-road bus ride on the 04. It cost 6,000 VND, not even 50 cents AUD, and coming back, the stop is practically out front. The hotel is in a friendly family neighborhood, and the staff were lovely. The rooms are roomy, with a good kitchen and stove; you’ll just need to buy your own utensils and a decent pan, which are very cheap. I loved the beef pho and egg rice at the restaurant. I loved staying here and will be back.

I was eating alone when the restaurant staff served me a burger and Bahn Mi and acted coy about it. They spoke good English, so their behavior surprised me.

We felt warmly welcomed at The Cherry Hotel, mostly thanks to the very friendly, dedicated staff who were always accommodating. We even took a selfie with the team at the end of the trip. The side street was quiet, and the airport was nearby. The affordable room price included a varied, healthy breakfast. The staff do try to help, but their English is limited and communication was difficult. The hotel needs work overall. It isn’t wheelchair or disability friendly, with high curbs and drops that make bringing luggage in or taking it out difficult. The rooms need updating, smell bad, and local building work is still noisy. Families staying here meant children running around early in the morning, so you may get an unplanned wake-up call. I’d planned to upgrade to a better room, but other plans had been arranged. The shower gets hot, but the system is outdated and needs updating. The toilet is very close to the wall, which was a struggle for a bigger person. The pool felt cold and uninviting, and housekeeping was poor. I found the general hotel standard in Vietnam poor compared with Thailand, Cambodia, and the Philippines.
