Condodo Hostel

The facilities were inadequate and dirty. We were moved here from another location that had been adequate. The beds were very hard, the AC was filthy, and breakfast included in the booking wasn’t provided. The shower ceiling was so low I couldn’t stand upright, and the shower opened onto the street entrance. The room door wouldn’t even lock.

We arrived at 1AM after booking an ensuite room with a balcony for 3 nights and confirming that arriving at 3AM would be okay. Then we got a message saying they had no room and we should go to their other branch. It was in a different district across the river, and the room had no window, with the bathroom in a corridor. I’m not sure if it was private. At 8AM, loud music from reception woke us up. We checked out after the first night and don’t plan to return.

We booked Condodo through Airbnb for 8 days and regret choosing the non-refundable option. This was my first negative Airbnb stay, and I want other travellers to know what disappointed us. I’d expressed my frustrations a few times, but they left no feedback on my Airbnb account, so my feedback to them wouldn’t be shown to others. The location was good, and the AC ran quietly. Beyond that, the room didn’t match the photos or what we expected. There was no reception or sign, so we wandered around the street until a random person showed us where to go. It was a nail salon, with no signage inside either. It felt more like a hostel than a homestay. We got no housekeeping or fresh towels until the sixth day, when they messaged to ask if we needed anything. The bathroom had no bathtub, just a shower-head. The beds were hard, bumpy mattresses on wooden palettes. The linen was clean but old and had a few holes. The TV didn’t work, and the hanger was poorly made from wood planks. Light from the corridor came through a window in the door at night. There was just one window, facing a narrow alley and a tall building right in front. The room got very little natural light and was quite dark. Dogs barked loudly and constantly in the early mornings. The room wasn’t horrible, but it differed from the Airbnb listing and our expectations. I can imagine staying just one night for the good location and cheap price, but don’t get caught by the non-refundable option like we did.

The room was clean, with a fan, air conditioner, clean towels, and a fairly good hard bed. I slept very well, which mattered most to me. The place was probably a converted garage, but it was okay. The price was low, paid in cash, and didn’t include breakfast. The daily staff were friendly. In the evenings, young boys looked after the place, or mostly played WoW or something similar at high volume with the light on. The door was glass, so that wasn’t very nice. One guy had a really bad aim when he went to pee, leaving pee everywhere, and the toilet was shared by all guests. The shower was very low, and I hit my head a few times.
