The location worked really well for me: it's tucked into a quiet alley, close to food, 24-hour convenience stores and long-distance bus companies, with Bui Vien party street an easy walk away. I paid 190,000 for a dorm bed for one night a few weeks ago, which was competitive for that price range. The hostel looks gloomier in person than in the photos, though, and some drawbacks seem tied to the building itself: cramped spaces, a windowless dorm, and bathrooms with no ventilation or shower-toilet separation. Still, they’ve clearly put a lot of effort into making guests more comfortable. My end bunk on the top row had its own outlets and probably the best bedside shelf I’ve seen in a hostel. The beds were solid and comfortable, the curtains were good, the air conditioning was set to 24° and supposedly on all day, and the day-pack-sized lockers were sturdy with built-in locks. Towels and a few other toiletries were included, and the hot shower was good. With all that humidity, I was surprised how little mold I saw in the bathroom; the place seemed pretty clean overall. The capsule-style bunks are only separated by curtains, which might bother some people, but it was fine for me. The older staff don’t speak English and didn’t seem especially friendly by Saigon standards, though not unfriendly either. There was also a younger staff member around sometimes who spoke some English and was actively friendly.

It’s a small, simple place, nothing luxurious, but I felt a warmth there. The bunks have curtains instead of solid dividers, and that didn’t cause problems with the other guests. It was still clean and didn’t smell. For a budget-friendly hostel that suits backpackers, this feels like a good fit. The staff communicate well even without saying much. They don’t smile all the time, but they seem sincere and kind.

For a solo traveler after a reasonably priced hostel near the city centre, this is good value. You can walk to the centre. The bed and pillow were soft, the linens had just been changed, and even in a six-bed room I felt my privacy was respected. I also felt safe coming back late at night.

I came for a few days and ended up staying for a few weeks. The place was clean, felt quite safe, and was good value for its location. Restaurants, the party street, museums, markets and coffee spots are just a few minutes away on foot. The woman who runs the place is a real darling and very helpful. Some low reviews seem to come from people expecting a five-star hotel at a budget-hotel price. Don’t worry, just book a room.

My husband and I had breakfast at the traditional market nearby every morning, which was such a fun way to try local food and meet people. The location is really convenient, and the staff are very nice. They aren’t fluent in English, but we had no trouble communicating. Khoi Hostel was comfortable, clean and well looked after. The shared areas, bathrooms included, were cleaned each morning. I’ve added photos and hope they speak for themselves. I’m taking the time to write this because I’d like others to choose Khoi for their stay. I don’t understand the negative comments, since they don’t match what we experienced. Thanks, Khoi Hostel!
