The owner made our trip memorable. When we had to return to Ho Chi Minh City for Tết (Chinese New Year) after visiting Can Tho, we couldn’t find a room in our budget. She arranged for us to stay at her place even though she wasn’t around. She also helped us figure out where to see lion and dragon dances during the festivities. She speaks some English, and we used a translator or her son when needed, which worked fine. The place is tucked into a charming alley near several districts, so it was quiet but still close to what we needed. The room was great for the price, with AC, a fan, hot shower, clean linens, soap, shampoo, and towels. We had to change rooms because we booked late; the new room had a smell, but it was sorted out by evening. It seemed to be from the previous guests, not an ongoing issue. The owner was incredibly kind, patient with all our questions, and always made us feel welcome. Great value, and I’d happily recommend it.

The lady running the place is kind and service minded. It’s right by Bui Vien party street, and the air conditioning works well. A very nice place.

The location in a nice alley near several districts worked well. The major problem was the noise: our fourth-floor room still let in an extremely loud karaoke party, and we couldn’t sleep before 2am on two nights in a row. It was much louder than the usual Bui Vien street noise, so keep that in mind if you’re hoping for somewhere quiet. For crazily good coffee, walk out of the stay and turn left, then take the first left and the second left. There’s a drinks place on the corner, selling an oily coffee that’s amazing.

For $18, we got one double bed and one single, which felt like a bargain. Booking directly at the hostel is much cheaper than using a site. The door is closed after 11pm, but ring the bell and someone will let you in. I had to switch to a single room or dorm on my last day. They had no room available, but the owner took time to ask around and advise me on the best option, including what to avoid. The facilities aren’t the best, but the room was clean and the host family was welcoming. It’s fairly priced for a spot right in the backpacker street center, and looked better than the photos. The curtains are a bit thin, so sleeping in the morning was hard. I bring my own personal hygiene items, so I didn’t mind that they weren’t provided.
