Ngoc Hue Hotel

The room had enough space and most things were alright, but the water pressure was poor, which bothered me. What really put me off was the security staff. Whenever I came to visit my friend, their unfriendly, stern expressions made me uncomfortable. I wish they’d at least smile when they see guests. Sorry to focus on that, but I hope the hotel will ask them to be more welcoming.

After coming here almost every year since 2003, I think this may have been my last visit. The service has been slipping, and the laundry service is gone now. Staff didn’t seem professional: I got different answers from different people, and they quoted different room prices because they didn’t seem to know them. They also forgot the toilet paper and towels. For ten days my wife tried to order the bread, butter, and jam listed on the breakfast menu, but they never had the jam.

Tucked through a maze of alleys between Co Bac Street and Co Giang Street, this is a quirky, peaceful hotel with friendly staff. The room comes with a decent free breakfast, and there’s a small restaurant and convenience store on site. Rooms also have TV, air-con, hot water, and free wi-fi.

The workers here are great, and breakfast comes with the room. My room was spacious, and there’s also a restaurant and a little convenience store. The Wi-Fi is available, though if you’re using a laptop you may need some patience now and then. I’m paying $14.00 US as I write this, the most I’ve paid in Vietnam so far, though this is Ho Chi Minh City, or Saigon. I prefer the Co Giang area to Pham Ngu Lao, and it’s still not far from that tourist ghetto. I’d give the place four stars.
