MT Collection Hotel

The room itself was okay, but the shower was a mess. There’s a bathtub beside it, yet no divider between the shower area and the rest of the bathroom, so you have to shower inside the tub if you don’t want to soak the room. The shower head points partly outside and partly into the tub, leaving you with nowhere sensible to stand. The glass wall between the bathroom and bedroom is also almost see-through, so people outside can clearly see you. We’d booked the suite for two nights and arrived around 6:30 after taking a night bus. We understood there’d be a charge for checking in that early, but the fee was nearly twice what I paid per night. When we asked to store our luggage, the receptionist just shrugged and ignored us, even though the online listing says luggage storage is available. We ended up paying the ridiculous fee, then waited 30 minutes with the room already ready because online early check-in only starts at 7. I hadn’t tried breakfast yet when I wrote this. Nobody explained anything about the hotel or its hours at check-in, so I didn’t know what to expect. I’ll update this after trying it. So far, this is the worst place I’ve stayed in Vietnam. I’d recommend staying away. They treated customers really badly compared with other places here.

The gym is quite good for proper workouts, though there’s no AC. Breakfast wasn’t amazing, but they can make fresh eggs. The coffee was bad. It’s a nice, modern hotel compared with homestays, with comfortable rooms and good service. It’s a bit far from the tourist attractions, but the price was reasonable and I had a good stay. I’d recommend it.

The restaurant staff were polite and attentive, and the food was tasty, especially the Pho. Chef Nguyen was particularly attentive and nice. Our room was spacious and clean, and the hotel is well placed, within walking distance of Hoa Lư Old Town. A good place to stay in Ninh Bình.

Everything else was okay, but don’t try the hotel massage. It was awful. For 450,000 VND an hour, the therapists seemed inexperienced, talked through the session, and even used their phones while massaging us. Is that what we paid for?
