Le Garden Resort & Spa Phu Quoc

A bag with all our belongings disappeared from the room while we were out, just a few hours before departure. Earlier, staff had come in while we were sleeping. Management gave no transparent account of what happened and didn’t handle the situation seriously. We felt completely unsafe. The room looked nothing like the photos: it was outdated, housekeeping was irregular, the trash wasn’t emptied, and breakfast was very basic.

The only part that worked well for me was the location. It was quiet and central for my needs, with plenty of restaurants within walking distance, and the staff were always friendly and helpful. The grounds look promising at first, but they’re neglected and worn, and badly need a deep clean and renovation. I can’t recommend this “resort”; it isn’t worth the price. Finding it was confusing: the road sign says Le Garden Resort, while the old Countryside sign on the left of the driveway looks dilapidated. At check-in they asked me to pay, although I’d already paid in advance. They then showed me to a two-bedroom room with two double beds. It was a nice upgrade, but useless to me as I was traveling alone. The air conditioning was already on at 20 degrees Celsius, with no remote or other way to adjust it. The only control was the card by the front door, which turned it on or off. I didn’t need it overnight because the room was comfortable without it. I also wasn’t given a key at first. After going back to reception for one, a staff member explained that the lock turns right, not left, which was strange. The room and bathroom were old and worn. The kettle was too dirty and old to use more than once. Towels were stiff and old, and with no shower screen the bathroom floor flooded. The large pool was being cleaned by hand, just wiping grime from the edge, so I chose not to swim. The wooden loungers had no cushions and didn’t look comfortable. Breakfast the next day was a joke. There was instant coffee, an omelet or fried egg on request, and a few other unappealing things: dry white bread, odd-tasting ham, and dry rice.

After a week, the sheets and towels still hadn’t been changed once. Breakfast was very poor, with ants crawling over the serving table, too few plates and mugs, and a selection that was nowhere near satisfactory. There was a crack in the room door, and the room felt squalid. This place might do for one night, but no more. It doesn’t even qualify as a three-star hotel, and I wouldn’t recommend it. I agree with this person, though it’s a shame I downloaded Google Maps too late.

The one positive was the location. At 50 euros a night, this place should cost one-fifth as much. The room was poorly kept and unsanitary, housekeeping was irregular, and the trash wasn’t emptied. It felt like a prison. There was no sign of a resort or spa. Staff came in several times early in the morning while we were sleeping, without knocking. When we returned, a whole bag of valuables was gone. Management didn’t review security cameras or contact the authorities, and offered no solution or compensation. We felt there was no security, no respect for privacy, and that customers weren’t trusted while theft was being protected. Avoid at all costs.
