Mimosa Hotel Phu Quoc

We stayed for six days. The room itself was lovely, with a comfortable bed and a nice shower, and renting a motorbike was easy and hassle-free at 150k a day. I’d recommend one for getting around. Overall, the stay was okay, but there were some service issues that could be improved. When we arrived, nobody was at reception. We waited 20 minutes and called the number provided, but got no answer, so eventually we checked ourselves in. I’ve never had to do that at a hotel before. Room service wasn’t great either. We weren’t initially given a door sign and had to ask reception for one. We had booked a triple room, which was supposed to come with three waters, but about halfway through the stay they started leaving us fewer. That felt a bit tight since we were paying more for a triple room and can’t drink tap water. We also ran out of shower gel and called reception. They said they’d bring some, but it never arrived, and room service hadn’t picked it up the next day either. When we asked again, they said there’d been confusion about our room and the gel went to the wrong one. They apologized. We also had quite a few cold showers, especially in the morning, because the hot water wouldn’t work. That’s not ideal when you’re paying a fair bit for the room.

Outrageous. We booked weeks in advance, then got told a few days before the stay that the reservation had been cancelled. Their reason was that we hadn’t replied to an automated message with the booking details. Why would we, when the booking was confirmed on booking.com? The message didn’t ask a question, we weren’t contacted multiple times as they claimed, and there was no warning before they cancelled it.

The service was horrendous. They cancelled my booking just days before our trip, saying they had tried to contact me several times, but I never got any message before the cancellation notice. They were unapologetic and unhelpful, and have completely disrupted our plans without a good reason. I suspect they double-booked or something like that, though I can’t be sure. I’m shocked by the lack of service and wouldn’t trust them with your holiday booking.

The hotel is nice, but the area isn’t really my kind of place. It’s being built up at a crazy pace, and I think it may be bustling in a year. For now, though, it feels kind of strange.
