Myrtle Boutique Hotel

There are clean pools, and families seemed to enjoy them, though the people I saw mostly looked like they were just getting by. We won't be coming back. The only reason I'd consider staying here is if I were a family on a budget wanting a resort and didn't mind few local amenities or poor service. Western comfort food and authentic food were both better elsewhere on the island. This area feels like a ghost town, and I think it may take several years before it is worth visiting. The local restaurants and cafes were poor compared with the rest of the island. We had to ride a moped about five minutes north to a resort to do laundry and find a decent cafe, but even those places didn't match the island's better food and coffee. The beach here also wasn't among the island's best. We much preferred Long Beach for its beauty and the east side for a more authentic experience. Our arrival was a mess. We were told the hotel was overbooked and sent to the owner's “friends” at a hotel around the corner. We were told it was the same, but the quality was lower and no money was offered back. The bathroom there wasn't great. We'd chosen this place after reading a review about comfy beds and a hot shower. That was sort of true, but it left out a lot. When we moved into Myrtle hotel the next day, construction noise was drilling through the walls from early morning. The whole area is still being built up, and the hotel itself clearly had a lot of work going on while renting rooms. The drilling was painfully loud and piercing. We got out of bed and onto the moped just to get away from it. Towels and toilet paper weren't changed unless we asked. That's not a huge deal, but it didn't feel like boutique hotel service. When we asked about laundry, the staff member pointed to a cafe next door, but the cafe simply said no. Things felt disorganized and annoying, like nothing was quite as it seemed. The operation came across as cowboyish, not charmingly informal.

I can't recommend this spa for a manicure. I went in for a basic one, but the work was poor and left unfinished. The color was still wet when I left, apparently because the final step hadn't been done. When I mentioned it, they said it was my fault and offered no fix. I eventually had to leave, and my nails have been painful since. I'm sorry, but I have to leave a negative review.

I left after three nights, even though I'd booked a week, because of the ongoing construction noise next door. Drilling and hammering often began around 07-07:30 and continued until 8-9pm. I had headaches constantly, and reception could only offer earplugs. The Wi-Fi was so weak I couldn't load or stream movies, and even opening emails could take minutes. I paid for seven days and left after three. The room was exceptionally clean, and the staff were very friendly and nice. The area is laid-back, close to pools and about 100m from the beach, with lots of small eateries and cafes. Prices there are very high compared with the city.

The hair wash and massage were the most relaxing part, really comfortable and amazing. I hadn't expected the room to be so spacious and homey, or to find Netflix on the TV. I definitely recommend Myrtle Boutique Hotel.
