The Poplar Resort

I only spent one night at Poplar Resort, but the beach view right from the hotel really impressed me. My room was comfortable, clean, and well looked after. Mr. Van was an especially kind host. After my exhausting early morning flight, he let me check in early so I could rest. I was touched when he and his family also helped fix my broken tripod. I highly recommend Poplar Resort for a vacation on Phu Quoc Island.

We just wanted to relax after arriving early in the morning before check-in, but the karaoke next door was unbearable. I’ve lived in Vietnam for years, so I know karaoke, and this was far too loud. The owner said it would stop soon, but it didn’t. The rooms looked fine, but I moved to different accommodation before checking in. I also thought it was pretty petty that when I went to move my things on the motorbike we’d rented for the day, the owner wouldn’t let me take the bike out again. They already had my passport photo and details for insurance. There are far better places to stay.

The area around the resort feels like a real Vietnamese fishing village, not a touristy spot. Pretty cool if you want a look at the real Phu Quoc. As a solo traveler, I enjoyed my stay. For couples, though, I don’t think there’s enough privacy. If I’d brought my girlfriend, I probably wouldn’t have been very satisfied, since she’s a light sleeper.

The bungalows were roomy, clean, and comfortable, with everything I needed. I especially liked sitting on the porch in the evening, taking in the fresh air and quiet. The Poplar Resort has a peaceful tropical feel, surrounded by nature, and it’s both close to town and the beach and tucked into a quiet, green area. The staff were very kind and helpful whenever I needed something. One night I ordered pizza delivery from Midori Restaurant, and it was easily some of the best pizza I’ve had in Vietnam. Having a hot, delicious pizza on the bungalow porch was such a treat. It’s a friendly, peaceful, affordable place to stay in Phú Quốc, and I’d absolutely return.
