After we checked out early, the manager followed us down the street. That felt creepy. We had booked and paid for two nights but left the next day as soon as we could. We arrived late, had no choice but to stay that night, then found another hotel for the same price with a much better room and more professional service. The beds here were the hardest we've ever encountered in 50 years of travelling in Asia. They felt like concrete covered in vinyl, and sleeping was awful, almost impossible. The room was sparse, with mosquitoes coming through open windows and nothing to soften the hard, unfinished look. There was no mirror in the room, no bathroom outlet for drying hair, and no remote for the air conditioning, which reception controlled. Since rooms faced different directions, one setting couldn't suit the whole hotel, and we were either too hot or too cold. There were holes in the walls, pipes sticking up through the floor, and bits protruding from both walls and floor, as if construction hadn't been finished. The booking confirmation on Booking.com said the hotel didn't accept cash and took all cards. We were ready to pay by credit card, as required by that advertised policy. On our late arrival, staff told us they only took cash and blamed Booking.com, despite the policy and our official confirmation. The manager then insisted on keeping our passports at reception until we paid. He made that clear repeatedly, with no misunderstanding: because we had no cash and it was past 10:30 p.m., he would only let us into the hotel if he held both passports. We firmly refused and loudly disputed it. We would never hand over our passports for a hotel to keep. We felt intimidated and harassed, even though we'd followed the stated payment policy. We now understand that holding guests' passports is illegal. There were two complimentary bottles of water, and it was quiet because the hotel wasn't near anything. That's about all the good I can say. The photos show how bad the experience was. The management reply doesn't change what happened. The manager was absolutely clear that he wanted to keep our passports.

We had a very comfortable mattress and a good hot shower, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. The receptionist was friendly, spoke good English, and was available around the clock. The place was clean and professionally run, with secure indoor parking for motorcycles. It’s one of our favourite motels so far in Vietnam. If you're planning a motorbike trip, we rode here from Phong Nha in a day without trouble, even with the short winter days at the start of March.

The family who run this little hotel are friendly and helpful, and the place is clean, well kept and recently renovated. There’s a good supply of hot water in the nice washroom. It sits just outside the core, with lots of restaurants and coffee shops only steps away. Great value for the money. Ken from Canada

The manager was kind and professional. The room was recently renovated, clean and simple. Beer costs 15k₫ and water 10k₫. There are plenty of party food restaurants nearby, though the grub food is good too. I stayed here before heading out to explore the birthplaces of great Vietnamese people.

A terrible stay. The bed was rock hard, there was no window in the room, and noise from the corridor and other rooms made it almost impossible to sleep. At least it's less than 2 km from the train station.
