Hoai Thu Hotel

After around 2,000 hotel nights, this was the worst experience I’ve had. I booked through Agoda, then got a strange email asking me to deposit money into an account. About 30 minutes later they said they’d cancelled my reservation, but hadn’t cancelled it through Agoda. They claimed they get fake bookings and therefore don’t cancel via Agoda. It felt like they were trying to take my money without giving me a room. I’d spent six hours flying and four hours on a bus, and this happened on a Saturday night, while they were still trying to collect payment. I’ve never run into anything like this, even when I lived in China. There are plenty of hotels in Vung Tau, choose another.

If all you need is an inexpensive place to sleep, this one does the job. It’s close to the beach, and for the price you get a bed, mini fridge, table, towels and soap. Pretty great value :)

There was a power cut from 9am until 4pm, even though they have a large generator on the ground floor and didn’t switch it on. My room also felt moldy, and the TV was broken, so I asked to move. The hostess refused instead of offering an upgrade for a fee. After that, they removed me from the booking app, so I couldn’t leave a review there.

The toilet fan made the room noisy, and I felt suffocated. We stayed for two nights and couldn’t shower because there was no hot water.
