Samoan Highland Hideaway

We spent a month here as a family and loved the property and our amazing hosts. We couldn't recommend it more. A short review doesn't do justice to how wonderful this place and the hosts are.

Tim and Maria run a beautifully maintained vacation home outside Apia, far enough from the city noise but still close by. Maria is full blood Samoan and knows the country well; Tim is of Australian descent and runs the backbone of the business. They can host 25 to 30 people, making it a great option for an overseas family reunion, anniversary, birthday, or holiday. I suggest spending a night on a mattress on the main level deck of the big house and looking up at the stars. They're incredibly bright and seem so close. Tim also operates tours and offers personalized trips with his local knowledge. I visited To Sua Trench, Lalumanu Beach Resort, and other spots in between, and included pictures of tourist places I saw on my vacation. Whether you're coming off a cruise ship or booking through their business, it's a top-notch place to stay.

Maria and Tim were lovely hosts and made our stay really enjoyable. We spent four nights at their place, which worked very well as a base for exploring Samoa.

We've been back to Samoa three times, staying at Samoan Highland Hideaway retreat each time. The location in the middle of Upolu makes it easy to explore all corners of the island, and the hosts know the island and its culture well. We enjoyed discovery tours with Tim to lovely beaches, hidden lakes, waterfalls, and swimming holes. The main house is spacious, with many rooms and all the comforts of a modern home, so it could suit a family or large group. The balcony has a special view, and the flowers and native plants are neatly maintained. The plantation provides seasonal fruit. Each trip, one of the highlights was taking part in Umu, the Samoan way of cooking over a fire. The fale is stunning, with a high ceiling, traditional craft decor, and all the comforts you could want. Its traditional design keeps it cool even on the hottest days. We'd definitely recommend Samoan Highland Retreat and hope to return soon.
