Golden Hotel

The one good part was the espresso, which was quite good. Breakfast starts at 8 am and is a single plate served to you. The rooms have a strong, constant smell of cigarettes.

The morning brought another letdown: the promised refund was refused, even though staff had assured me just hours earlier that we'd get it after checkout. Other guests told us they'd had the same problem. Breakfast was also far from what Booking listed, which mentioned pancakes, fruit, yogurt, and more. What we got was two eggs, bread, butter, and marmalade, ridiculous for a supposed 4-star hotel. There was no water in the room, not even one bottle, and no shower gel. Staff were cold and unhelpful, with no apparent concern for guests. The trouble started when we arrived around 2 p.m. The room wasn't ready, despite check-in starting at 1 p.m., so we had to wait. The receptionist said the air conditioning was broken and would be fixed by evening, but it wasn't. When we got back that night, the room was unbearably hot. With the window open, it was still impossible to sleep or breathe comfortably. At about 3 a.m. I went to reception. The staff member said every room was the same and, since he was alone, he couldn't do anything. There was no fan, though he promised we'd be refunded in the morning because of the discomfort. I stayed in several hotels on my trip through the Balkans, and this was by far the worst. A hotel where you can't rest or sleep has missed the point, and they should close until the air conditioning is fixed. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The stay wasted my money, time, and energy.

This was my fifth visit, and the earlier stays had all been good. This time the AC blew hot air, and they neither fixed it nor moved us to another room. I couldn't sleep either of the two nights because of the heat. The refrigerator was broken too. If a room is sold with AC and a refrigerator, both should work. I won't stay here again.

After visiting every year for ten years, this was our last time here. The only good thing left was the receptionist, who tried as best he could to accommodate us. The rooms are poorly maintained, with broken AC units, refrigerators, and even windows. Our suite's jacuzzi was broken and the room was uninhabitable because of the foul smell coming from it. Breakfast has never been this poor in either quality or quantity. It simply isn't worth even half the price. This hotel has seen better days.
