The Vishuis

The mildew smell was the biggest problem for us during our two nights at the Vishuis, which has four separate houses. We booked a "Deluxe Double Room." There was a strong mold odor under the kitchen sink, and we could see damp patches and mold on an outside wall. An electric dehumidifier and a chemical one were already there, so we assume the issue was known. The owner didn't respond in a way we felt was appropriate and simply said there was no mold, even though it was quite obvious, especially under the sink. The dishes and shower weren't fully clean, though we'd normally overlook that. The location is fairly close to the city center, and we had a private driveway parking space. There was no air conditioning. Furnishings were very basic, and the decor took some getting used to, though that's personal taste. With the musty smell, visible mold, and the owner's unwillingness to address it, we can't recommend this place.

Marc was a welcoming, exceptional host and gave us plenty of recommendations for our time in the area. The rooms are beautifully appointed, and it's great value for money. Fantastic accommodation in an excellent Hermanus location. We'll certainly return next time we're in town.

Everything is an easy walk from The Vishuis, including restaurants, bars, shops, supermarkets, and the waterfront. Tucked away on a quiet street, this self-catering place is a cozy hidden gem, with roomy, clean, and pleasant spaces. Marc was a welcoming and helpful host, with good suggestions for things to do in the area. Highly recommended.

From booking right through to leaving, I felt lucky to have found this lovely little Vishuis. Marc met me on the front porch with a friendly smile and let me get settled. I've never stayed in a guest house with such attention to detail, and it was so clean and inviting. I left already feeling like I can't wait to come back. I will! Lara x
