Pablo House

Breakfast was a real highlight at Pablo House, especially the best shakshuka I’ve ever had. The place is charming, with creative decor and a great location. We were in Room 6, which was lovely, though carrying luggage up quite a few stairs was a hassle because there’s no elevator. It would also be nice if every room had air conditioning and if the bathroom had a door to contain the smell. Still, we really enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and stay.

The food at the restaurant is the strongest part of the property, but the accommodation and shared spaces let it down. My room was spacious, though it felt damp and was uncomfortable because of that. Outside, the areas look neglected, as if maintenance has been put off for a long time. With proper attention to the outdoor spaces, this place could be much better. Right now the experience feels uneven.

Come for the filling breakfast, especially the delicious shakshuka and flatbread. It’s also a lovely quiet spot in the morning, with a breeze and a view of the Melville Koppies. I could work remotely without any distractions while sipping my cappuccino.

I was excited to visit the restaurant and had made a booking, but they didn’t make any effort to check whether I’d called beyond looking at their website, where no booking appeared. They wouldn’t even look at the call logs to verify what I said. Instead, because whoever handled my booking was incompetent, I was told I hadn’t booked and felt gaslighted. I was highly disappointed with the service and wouldn’t recommend any of their offerings after this.
