Carol and her team are wonderful, keen to please, and made the trip feel like an authentic South African experience. Marloth Park sits on the Crocodile River beside Kruger National Park, so it’s worth extending your stay and popping into the Park for a chance to see the Big 5, even if you’ve already seen plenty of game in Marloth. It’s also an affordable bushveld stop just off the N4, handy for breaking up the long drive from Gauteng to Mozambique.

I left feeling very disappointed with the lodge owner. I’d mentioned to the receptionist that the TV wasn’t playing because of network problems, but a few hours later the owner cornered and accused me of leaving a bad review I knew nothing about. She said she suspected me because I was the only woman at the lodge, and threatened me. I felt unwelcome and had to leave. The way she handled it was unprofessional and unnecessary. If a business has problems raised, they should fix them instead of accusing and threatening guests based on suspicion.

Carol and her family made us feel like part of the family, and they’re such lovely people. The place itself was beautiful too. We only got to stay a few days, which was a shame, but I’m sure I’ll bring my family back for longer next time.
