Morningstar Express Hotel

The bedding was clean, which I appreciated, but the toilet smelled strongly of urine even though it looked clean. The free Wi-Fi wouldn’t connect because it asked for a guest number that didn’t work. DSTV was included, but the TV sound was very poor. They provided coffee and a kettle, but no bottled water, and just one stirring stick for two cups, which was inconvenient. I booked a one-night stay through Agoda for December 10 and got a confirmation email at 19:58. When we arrived around 20:30, the hotel couldn’t find the booking on its system. We were told it would take 10-15 minutes, then waited much longer without a proper explanation or reassurance. The receptionist, Grace, said neither she nor a manager could do anything, even though we had proof of the booking. Eventually, she silently handed us check-in forms and an access card. It felt unprofessional and poorly communicated. The stay was average at best. Better communication, front desk service, and attention to detail would make a difference.

I wasn’t happy with the room. It was small, and there wasn’t a mat on the floor, not even in the bathroom. We struggled to open the door several times. The listing mentioned DSTV with limited channels, but that wasn’t what we got. It seemed like reception was changing channels for us through their own decoder. There was no microwave, and the Wi-Fi was disabled in the wee hours 🙄

People are quick to post bad reviews, but not as quick to share the positive. We had an amazing stay: the hotel and food were great, and the staff were friendly. Frans the drive was great, too! We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms and loved it. I’d easily recommend this hotel to anyone. Thanks to the staff for making it such a great experience!

Bongani greeted me warmly from day one and stayed friendly. When I accidentally locked my access card in the room, he replaced it without a fuss. Edison Moyo checked on us with a smile at breakfast and dinner, and Mr Frans, our driver, always made sure we got where we were going safely. I’d give each of them 10/10.
