The Cliffside Boutique Getaway

Ms Mmatau hosted us and was very helpful. The view of the city from the cliff is great, and the service was professional. My wife and I had a getaway and enjoyed the facilities, especially the swimming pool and sauna. The hotel is well maintained, the food is exquisite, and we wanted more. I’d highly recommend it for a private, intimate stay in the heart of Johannesburg. There is a no-children policy, though. Still, it’s a 10/10.

Up on the Northcliff hill, it feels calm and tucked away, with stunning views and amenities. The staff are brilliant at making you feel welcome and looked after. A truly exceptional stay.

We’ve returned to The Cliffside many times. The rooms are always clean, spacious, and well stocked, and the staff are the reason it’s our favourite. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome, and nothing seems too small or too much trouble for them. We stay at international hotels often, and The Cliffside staff stand out above them all.

The staff’s warmth made a real difference, and the owner’s vision has created a lovely place to unwind. I left feeling refreshed and cared for, already thinking about coming back. Book at least 3 days if you can, one night didn’t feel like enough. I had dinner and breakfast here, both beautifully prepared with fresh ingredients, and breakfast was especially impressive. After a hike with gorgeous sunset views, the team set up a fireplace, brought me a blanket, and left books and games for a cosy evening. I also asked Mmatau about the telescope I’d seen in the photos, and Ntate Elias kindly brought it to my balcony so I could look at the night sky. That was magical. My room was the Sunrise Room, and it exceeded the photos by a lot. The elegant layout, luxurious flooring, soft carpets, dreamy bed, lovely wallpaper, and bathroom all felt special. A personal note from the team and a fully stocked complimentary bar were thoughtful touches. The place is beautiful, from the lounge and honest bar with reasonably priced premium drinks to the outdoor scenery. The view over Northcliff, and possibly the whole Gauteng province, is breathtaking. The pool sits among lush greenery with a mountain backdrop and a miniature waterfall. The tea and coffee station had fresh oranges, bananas, and a delightful old brown cherry selection. Getting in via the steep entrance was a bit of an adventure, but Ntate Elias came to help with genuine care. Mmatau welcomed me inside and took me to the lounge to check in, where a refreshing lemonade appeared. It may be the best in town. Cliffside Boutique Getaway in the heart of Northcliff is a peaceful, luxurious escape with personal hospitality that felt beyond a 5-star experience.
