Swallows Nest Country Cottages

We arrived without a reservation and ended up in chalet 5 with our family of three. It's basic, but had what we needed, including good WiFi and signal, DStv channels, and a little fireplace. The first bag of wood was free. Adele was so warm and friendly at check-in, and moved us to this place because it suited a family better. We appreciated that. It was lovely sitting on the stoep in the morning, watching the staff open umbrellas and clean the facilities. They also ironed our clothes, and we were looking forward to breakfast. Great central spot and a very safe stay. Highly recommend.

Natasha makes a nice breakfast, but that was the bright spot. Building work started just after 7am and carried on until late afternoon. We told reception, and the noise was even worse the following day. The WiFi was very poor, the TV ancient, the lounge furniture uncomfortable, and the kitchen equipment very basic. Of the places we've stayed during our SA trip, this has been the worst value for money by far.

Against the other lodges where we've stayed along the garden route, this place was below par. I'm not sure how it measures up to the Stormsriver standard.

The breakfasts were amazing, with really good quality food, and the receptionists were very friendly and happy to share information about the area and things to do. Swallows nest was a lovely place to stay, especially with the proteas in full bloom. The rooms were neat and had everything we needed, including torches for loadshedding. Just remember to charge one beforehand. We had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend it.
