River Place Manor

The restaurant was great, and the beds were comfortable enough for a genuinely good night's sleep. I liked how cold the air conditioning was. The rooms are laid out well, and the blackout curtains make the room completely dark, which is perfect if you like sleeping that way. I really enjoyed my stay.

The food was excellent, and the riverside setting is stunning, with gardens, birds, and fishing. Air conditioning kept things comfortable, a real relief in Upington's oppressive summer heat. The owner was on site, maintaining high service standards, and the staff seemed motivated.

Breakfast was outstanding, and the staff were both professional and friendly. After a long drive, it was lovely to find somewhere so quiet beside the Orange River. The view is breathtaking, and in the early morning the birds announce the start of the day. An oasis, with excellence in overdrive.

We stayed three nights in December 2025, and despite the well-prepared food and friendly staff, the experience was terrible. We couldn't use the facilities because 24 people, mostly not staying at the guest house, held a function at the pool. It was noisy, and beer bottles were left in the planters. Some outside guests had drinks in the parking area, leaving too little parking for us. A few guests parked on the road toward the premises. Our room was only partly serviced. We've stayed here at least six times, but if this is the new standard, we won't return.
